Joanie Joe Langford is a raven-haired resident of Weehawk City, Alabama and a rival of Ginger Grant. As an adult, she wins the Mrs. Globe beauty pageant which comes with a round the world trip. Hearing the news on the radio sends Ginger into a rage and spurs a beauty contest on the island between, Ginger, Mary Ann, and Mrs. Howell.
