Albert E. Lewin

Not to be confused with director and producer Albert Lewin, Albert E. Lewin is a literary, stage and screen writer, who penned scripts for stage, screen, radio and television. Born in New York City, he was a student of the Chicago School of Art Institute and Los Angeles Valley College. He also served in the military during World War Two, and afterward, became a writer for the NBC radio network for "The Eddie Cantor Show," "Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy" and "The Judy Canova Show." As a screenwriter, he collaborated with other writers in numerous projects, later working at 20th Century Fox for the duration of two contracts which occurred between 1948 and 1951 and between 1959 and 1961. During that time Lewin, penned nine scripts with Norman Panama and seven with Burt Styler. He also wrote two plays with Styler and one book, The Glass Bed, with Panama.
Lewin eventually started writing for television, penning teleplays for such series as "My Favorite Martian," "Gilligan's Island" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" during the '60s, "The Brady Bunch," "Odd Couple" and "Maude" in the 70s and :Different Strokes" and "The Facts of Life" in the 80s. He co-wrote two books, The Thesaurus of Slang and The Glass Bed, two plays, "The Gift Horse" and "The Will," nine film screenplays including "Eight on the Lam" and three television films including "Coffee, Tea or Me."
He passed away from congestive heart failure on April 23, 1998; He was 79.
